Quotes

...Having a 25-year career in asset management and a highly financially literate trustee board is a good place to start… "I arrived five days before Lehman as the inaugural CIO of the Barclays UK Staff Pension Fund—my first role as an asset owner.$ The fund had no in-house investment structure, and it became clear we needed some. In 2005/2006 the trustees had diversified out of UK equities into overseas equities, commodities, hedge funds, and increased credit exposure. Numerous subcommittees had led to sequential diversification, which wasn't the most efficient approach."
Story continues... "He was cool in a crisis, steadfast in times of trouble, the first to pick up the bill, the last to leave the party.” —Charles Ruffel on Bill Mahoney (1957-2013), former equity partner and early fundraiser for Bridgewater Associates"
...bonds, so they didn't really have a diversifier, such as equities," says Jose Manuel Suarez, a director and adviser to several Dutch pension funds. "Coming from the 1980s, when we had bond yields of 5% to 7%, it was easy to match liabilities and long-term interest rates, so when the need increased to get outperformance in the 1990s, the introduction of the diversified portfolio arrived and institutional pension funds came to a different view of investing."
..."It is all about capturing new business," he says. "The UKUK government is ready to start a road-show outside its own borders to showcase what the ACS is about and how it can help investors."
