Quotes

"We could measure it, but instead we'll listen and see what we like best," Von Schweikert told attendees. "After all, everyone has a different spin on what drivers to use. And since 95% of today's engineers don't believe in time alignment, we'll discuss its benefits and trade-offs. Finally, we'll pretend to build a cabinet together."
In a memo to stations, PRSS had this to say: "The national and international audio and broadcast industry has heightened awareness about loudness levels in audio and the need to achieve consistency between programs. The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) has developed a loudness standard for television in order to comply with the CommercialLoudness Mitigation (CALM) Act. The CALM Act regulates the audio of TV commercials. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Audio Engineering Society (AES) also have loudness recommendations for all broadcasters. In meeting these standards, there’s also a movement away from using peak program meters to measure audio levels and a trend toward using instruments and processes that measure audio loudness."
"People who worked on HRTF found it was getting better not because their work was better but their brain was improving."
"On the one hand, you need to fully understand the Acoustic challenges on the way toward Perfect Sound Quality and, on the other, you need to fully understand the potential and possibilities of DSP."
