General: Mikhail Fridman was born on April 21, 1964 in Lvov, Ukraine.
In 1986, he graduated with distinction from the Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys. He started his career as a design engineer and later rose from a private entrepreneur to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alfa Group Consortium (1996). In 1998, Mikhail Fridman became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alfa Bank. In February of 2001, he became a member of the Council for Entrepreneurship at the Government of the Russian Federation.
Mikhail Fridman is a successful businessman frequently named in industry ratings and honoured with international awards. Mr. Fridman received the Darin Award for his outstanding personal contribution to the development of domestic business and entrepreneurship (2004). In May 2003, he was honoured with the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievements in Washington, DC. The annual GQ Man of the Year National Award, organized by the GQ magazine, named Mr. Fridman as Businessman of the Year for 2006.
Mr. Fridman is actively involved in public affairs. He is member of the bureau and management board of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, as well as member of the National Council on Corporate Administration, a consultative body that unites managers of the largest Russian companies and federal authorities. He was elected to the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and is member of International Advisory Council on Foreign Relations (U.S.).

Mr. Fridman is a co-founder of the Russian Jewish Congress. Since 1996, he has been Vice-President of the organisation and head of its cultural committee. He is actively involved in philanthropy, including support of the Jewish movement, assistance to public organizations working in the sphere of education, social welfare, Jewish culture and heritage.
Mr. Fridman is married and has two daughters.
