Quotes

A spokesman from Brittany Ferries said it had sympathy, but "the rules are clear. The decision to deny her boarding was taken entirely for her own safety. The ship's captain has responsibility for the safety of all his passengers, and in this case, because Mrs Kissack was already 34 weeks pregnant, he rightly took the decision not to allow her to travel."
"For holidaymakers in northern France this year, there’s a good case for filling up in the Channel ports before you catch the ferry. Others will cut driving costs by taking the Brittany Ferries route all the way down to Santander, which is good value in May, June and September, but much pricier in July and August."
Spokesman Stephen Tuckwell said: "The captain's decision is final and the fact that he's a doctor does not give him the right to overrule the captain."
"He doesn't have responsibility for the safety of passengers - the captain does - and the rules are there in black and white."
