"Whatever decisions I make will always be in the best interest of the people," he said during a campaign visit in Brunswick Friday. "Politicians do not have the right to put their personal ambition and ego in front of the people they represent. We can't afford to be ineffective in leadership. One thing I realize is a lot of (candidates) are more in touch with what their (voting) base needs them to do than the whole district. But the people in the base will do better if you make the right decisions."
"I'm trying to get the tools at the ready," Martin said Thursday. "A tax allocation district is one tool. Another would be an enterprise zone. We could layer offerings and incentives for businesses to relocate in the downtown area, build out and finish off under-utilized space, or start new projects to take something down or repurpose it. You need to make sure the tools work together and complement each other."
