The dollar initially slid against euro, but later recovered after in later Bernanke testimony "refused to rule out the possibility of tapering asset purchases this year if the labour market were to improve" said Hewson
Paul Ashworth, Chief U S Economist at Capital Economics, said, "All things considered, we still think that the Fed will begin to curb its asset purchases before the end of the year, with a complete halt sometime in the first half of next year."
They said the case for additional stimulus was more compelling. "Further asset purchases now would facilitate an earlier normalization of the monetary stance when that became appropriate" the minutes showed
"It seems like Bernanke has confused the markets. The initial take on the actual speech was that he was more dovish, saying it would be premature to have the discussion [about ending QE], but then in the Q&A session he said they could do it within the next months. That created a sense of confusion, which I'm sure he wasn't shooting for" said Tom Porcelli, chief U S economist at RBC Capital
