Quotes

The 2-by-3-foot plaques near the front doors include two Latin crosses. The plaques read, "Dedicated in the year of our Lord 1997 to the education of God's children and to their faithful teachers in the name of the Holy Christian Church - Soli Deo Gloria."
...Parents were notified North Mac Elementary and Intermediate School was being evacuated because of a carbon monoxide leak around 10 a.m. "We send a sky alert to parents because when we evacuate we evacuate to local churches so they could come here and based on the grade level of the child we could tell them where to go pick up their student, said Marica Cullen, Superintendent, North Mac CUSD #34. Cyrstan Courier got the phonephone call and didn't even listen to the whole message. She immediately rushed to the school to find her children. "It was just chaos. There [were] kids all over the ground on masks, ambulance, numerous police, it was just the most scariest thing I think really any parent could experience today," Courier said. Students were taken by bus to St. Patrick's Church and First Christian Church nearby. School administrators say they have evacuation plans for a reason, and today, they worked out. "This would not have worked as well as it did if we didn't have the staff we did and more importantly we had a lot of people out in the community that saw the ambulances come by that had medical training that had worked in the schools in some capacity that had showed up to help," Cullen said. But parents say the process was too slow and they should have been notified sooner. "If this occurrence happened at 8, around 8 in the morning there is someone in the cafeteria that had passed out I mean come on, why is it taking until 10 o'clock for somebody to do something and and remove the kids from the building," Courier said. Investigators say the leak was found in the school's ventilation system. Crews were called in to fix the leak and air out the schools. Administration called off school for all of North Mac District for Tuesday, Sept. 16. If administrators get the all clear, school will resume on Wednesday."
Luci McGuire told 3 News reporter Bill Churchwell, "right now they are all scared.  This is a large community but tight knit.  Everyone looks out for one another."
