Quotes

"I congratulate the crew on HMCS Regina, who have certainly earned this success," said Commodore Daryl Bates, Commander of Combined Task Force 150. "They have worked tirelessly since taking over from HMCS Toronto in February. In conjunction with the recent efforts of warships from the French, United States and Royal Australian Navies, the Royal Canadian Navy has continued to prove that the national contributions to Combined Maritime Forces can have a real impact on terrorist organizations, by disrupting their lines of funding."
...He emphasised the importance of the mission to safeguard shipping and the freedom of navigation in the Gulf of Aden. He said, "These piracy attacks disrupt key sea lines of communication and maritime trade, as well as affect the safety of seafarers. This has a direct impact on countries such as Singapore that are dependent on maritime trade."
The Operation Atalanta Force Commander, Rear Admiral Bléjean concluded " We were able to use this day to strengthen our mutual understanding regarding counter-piracy issues. Also the exchange of crewmembers between the units for few hours helped to reinforce the already strong links that have been created. We are working together, shoulder to shoulder, against piracy in the Indian Ocean. "
"These are not small amounts by anyone's standards and it is clear that the terrorist networks that these activities fund are feeling the effect of our success."
