Quotes

Neil Micklethwaite, Customer Service and Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains, said: "This is an exciting and significant improvement scheme that will deliver a much improved railway for Nottingham. We have worked hard with Network Rail to ensure that we can continue running trains wherever possible. However, we know that many customers will face disruption to their journey and will need to use replacement bus services for parts or even all of their journey during the works. "This is the first time that Network Rail has carried out a project of this kind, where travel is disrupted for this length of time. We therefore felt it was particularly important to do something unique for our customers to recognise the major change they will see to their normal train journey. "It's the first time a train operator has ever provided compensation and discounts for customers during a major period of work such as the Nottingham scheme. We are pleased to be showing our commitment to putting our customers first and doing the right thing for them during these works." The resignalling work will take place between Saturday 20 July and Sunday 25 August and will result in some significant changes to East Midlands Trains services on routes to and from Nottingham. Full information and timetables can be found at eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/nottingham."
With Dr B Ching: "…MPs asked transport minister Simon Burns why state-owned East Coast will be reprivatised although it survives on less subsidy than any franchise. He denied ideological motives and said that only the private sector could give the sort of stimulus East Coast needs. East Coast (not actually a franchise) was the ‘worst’ of all 19 franchises, huffed Burns, ‘if you look at the latest monthly figures for reliability and punctuality’. By the most accurate yardstick, which classes trains as delayed if they finish a minute or more late, 61.1 percent of East Coast trains were punctual in the year to 31 March. Its nearest comparator, Virgin West Coast, managed just 49.4 percent. Arriva CrossCountry was even worse…”"
Tammy Samuel added: "I see significant synergies between my client base and the work the rail team at Stephenson Harwood has undertaken. I am delighted to be re-joining former colleagues in this acknowledged market-leading team and helping to develop the work undertaken by the group in the rail sector."
...Employment Relations and Consumer Minister, Jo Swinson, said: "Evidence shows that employee-owned companies can be more profitable, create more jobs and were more resilient during the economic downturn."
