"The big concern we have is that this could very easily be copied," a security source said. "This is the sort of thing that can go from flash to bang in a very short time."
But issuing cautionary advice not to display uniforms was inappropriate. "That is pretty sad really," she said. "It's almost like going back to the bad old days of the IRA and we are not in that position."
"We are increasing investment in longer term conflict prevention," he said. "Our armed forces will be much more engaged in capacity building and the training of domestic forces in future."
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg had also stood up for Afghan interpreters at the beginning of May. "The idea that we turn our backs as a country on very brave Afghans who have helped with interpretation so that our troops can do their job, and we just somehow leave them to their own fate when it's obvious that there might be a real threat to them and their families, I don't think is morally defensible" he said at the time
