Quotes

Brussels, 18 April 2014 "It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing away of Gabriel García Márquez."
Commission Vice President in charge of competition policy Joaquín Almunia said, " The vote by the European Parliament is great news for European citizens and businesses harmed by antitrust violations. The Directive will help to make the right to full compensation a reality in the EU, by removing the practical obstacles that victims face today. When the Directive is adopted and implemented, obtaining redress will become easier for them , especially after a competition authority has found and sanctioned an infringement. "
"Today's vote shows that the European Parliament has understood the urgency for acting: Legal highs are not legal, they are lethal ", said Vice-President Viviane Reding, the EU’s Justice Commissioner. "New psychoactive substances don't stop at national borders. More and more young people are put at risk because of the growing number and availability of these dangerous substances. In a borderless internal market, we need common EU rules to stop such substances that can cost the life of young people. I would like to thank the rapporteurs, Jacek Protasiewicz and Teresa Jiménez-Becerril, for their speedy work on this important file. I hope that national Ministers in the Council will now follow the lead of the Parliament and swiftly adopt this law that can help save lives.""
European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Maria Damanaki and Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik said: " Today's vote in the European Parliament is an important step in creating new growth opportunities across all maritime sectors by better managing our seas and ensuring their sustainability. Only if we coordinate the various activities taking place in our seas can we make access to maritime space more predictable for investors and at the same time reduce the impact of maritime activities on the environment ."
