"It's unacceptable that millions can't afford the best lifesaving treatment in the EU. More fiscal solidarity has not led to more general solidarity. We are putting the EU at risk" warned S&D Spanish Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Alejandro Cercas
The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg rejected allegations that Tymoshenko was physically mistreated, but agreed that her detention was "arbitrary; that the lawfulness of her detention had not been properly reviewed; and that she had no possibility to seek compensation for her unlawful deprivation of liberty" . Judges criticised the fact that her detention was ordered for an indefinite period of time
She said: "We won semi-official status for the Welsh language in Europe in 2008. That was a welcome step and has done a great deal to raise the profile of Wales and our language and culture. But I see it as a step towards achieving real equality, which means full official status."
As recently as in March 2010, EU transport commissioner Siim Kallas confirmed in his reply to my written question: "If the commission would receive notice of a cross-border use of gigaliners, it would ask the authorities of the concerned member state(s) for clarifications. In case this cross-border use was confirmed and the member states' authorities would not intervene to stop it, the commission would proceed against these member states for infringement against the directive."
