Quotes

"The found bulk velocities are a record for nuclear-powered phenomena," says SRON-researcher Jean in 't Zand. "They are faster than the maxima measured in other stellar nuclear explosions (novae and type Ia supernovae). Presumably X-ray bursts provide us a window to the initial phase of thermonuclear runaways which is not available for (super)novae, since those are always discovered after that phase is over."
"The theory is that space is made of waves instead of points, that everything is a little jittery, and never sits still" says Craig Hogan at the University of Chicago, who dreamed up the experiment
"Between the two extremes of stellar and supermassive black holes, it's a real desert, with only about half a dozen objects whose inferred masses place them in the middle ground" said Tod Strohmayer, an astrophysicist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland
"The corona recently collapsed in towards the black hole, with the result that the black hole's intense gravity pulled all the light down onto its surrounding disk, where material is spiralling inward" said Michael Parker of the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge, UK, lead author of the research paper
