...coating down in any weather, but the coating, once applied, will perform just as well in heat, rain, snow, hail, whatever it may be," Marzahl says. "Once it is applied and cured, there are no issues."
"They're very robust boilers, especially the 1958 one," Thompson says. "It's built like a tank, with thick pipes, and we've done very good maintenance over the years."
"Another myth is 'The thicker the coating, the better.' You will often get better results using a thinner, high-quality coating than a thicker, cheaper coating. It's not all about thickness. It's about the quality of the actual coating and resistance. One of the easiest indicators of a good coating is its percent solids content. The lower the solids content the more shrinkage will occur during the curing process. To get full protection, some cheaper coatings actually need a third coat, whereas the higher end coating with a high solid content may only require two."
"You also need to understand what kind of work area you're working in," Schaeper says. "If you are using a drum machine, those typically are used more in facilities because they are a little bit cleaner in the footprint needed when operating the machine. They are a little bit smaller than sectional machines. All the cable is housed in the drum, and when you pull it back out, all of the waste and the debris that you pull up is going to be pulled back into the drum. With a section machine, you have cable that you're pulling out, and there's no drum to hold the water or debris that you're pulling back outout In a business setting or a facility, where there are people around, the drum machines tend to be more popular."
