General: Apple Inc (formerly Apple Computer Inc) was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne and is a designer and manufacturer of hardware, software and consumer electronics. Although originally best-known for its Macintosh computers, Apple didn't become the household name of today until the launch in 2001 of its portable music player, the iPod, and its digial media player iTunes. Apple sold 175 million iPods worldwide in the next seven years (until end of 2008) making iTunes and iTunes Store the most popular media player and online music store in the process. Apple's success was further strengthened in 2007 as the company entered  the mobile phones market with the iPhone.  Apple software includes the OS X operating system, the Safari web browser, the iLife suite of multimedia and creativity software, the iWork suite of productivity software, and Final Cut Studio, a suite of professional audio and film-industry software products.
