Quotes

...The letter, signed by the IAS officer, who was then also holding charge of the Kanteerava Studios, says: "The deputy commissioner of Bangalore urban district has allotted two-acre land to construct the Dr Vishnuvardhan memorial at Mylasandra village. Land records are obtained accordingly. As the extent of flat land in the area has to be identified to prepare a plan for the proposed project, and plants and trees have grown in the land allotted by the government, it is proposed to clear them, if required, and utilise them for construction activity. Hence, besides giving permission to clear plants-trees, it is hereby requested to intimate the respective tree officer."
Filmmaker Umesh Kulkarni, who graduated out of the institute in 2004, remembers Ananthamurthy as a quiet and approachable person. "I passed out the year he came in. I had met him once during a function, where he spoke to all the students. He had positive energy around him. I read some of his works later and loved it. It felt great to have met a writer of such stature."
Expressing grief over the news, Kedar Awati, former Dean, FTII, said, "I am shocked. I shall always remember him as an extremely erudite person. I got the opportunity to interact with him when I was Dean of FTII, and he always supported the staff when he was Chairman of the Governing Council of FTII. He supported the syllabus prepared by me and was always a source of inspiration. A simple person, he treated me as a friend despite being much senior both in a g eg e a n d experience."
"As his condition worsened, we had to put him on life-support systems, including dialysis, but he could not recover due to renal failure" a Manipal Hospital spokesman told reporters later
