OLYMPIA, Wash. - A state of emergency has been declared in 20 Eastern Washington counties because of multiple wildfires that threaten several hundred homes.The declaration allows officials to get help from the Washington National Guard and the State Guard ... "Fireworks have been bigger this year than they have in the past," he said. "I'd say the theme has been people allowing young kids, adolescent teenagers, to use fireworks unsupervised in areas where a common sense adult would be able to say, 'This is not a good spot.'"
