...I am not worried, more concerned with my condition of "Fatty Liver Disease. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago after I realised my stomach felt dis-tainted and just generally feeling uncomfortable in that area. I took myself off to my GP and was sent to my local hospital to be seen by a specialist and had a biopsy and learnt that my condition was not connected to alcohol but a form of Hepatitis. I try to maintain a low alcohol intake (maybe one or two glasses of wine a week) and additionally, I try to eat healthily. However, I have other physical health conditions that I take heavy pain medication for but I am unable to physically exercise to an extent where my fitness is maintained. My GP has informed me there is no cure but management of it, which I attempt to do to my best ability. I am not thinking there is a magic wand cure but it does no harm having a second opinion. This brings me to seek what yours is? Thanks for your request for a ‘second opinion’. There is, as your specialist advises, regrettably no specific treatment for your ‘Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease’ other than the sensible advice to eat healthily and to try to stay as fit as possible. It may that you should go teetotal for a few months to see whether this improves matters as it is said, even very modest amounts of alcohol can exacerbate its symptoms. On 29 January I had an arthroscopy to repair a torn cartilage. A month later I had a steroid injection as the pain was so intense. This was effective for two wonderful weeks after which I returned to physiotherapy and the pain returned. As a previously active 72 year old, I am devastated that even simply walking up and downstairs is so very painful. I cannot take Ibuprofen as I have CLL but occasionally take other painkillers. Any suggestions? Thanks for your query about this difficult problem. The dramatic, if regrettably only transient, improvement in your post arthroscopy pain following the steroid injection would suggest there is ongoing inflammation in the joint - though it is possible that other factors such as weakness of the quadriceps muscle might be a contributory factor. The link between CLL and anti inflammatories such as Ibuprofen is fairly tenuous and as they are obviously the treatment of choice I would suggest a modest dose two or three times a day might usefully improve your mobility. I am female, 66 years of age, 5’2" , 8st, a lacto-vegetarian and take no medication at all
