Quotes

...Eagle Squadron lead Dan Friedkin said: "It is a great honour to present the squadron in memory of the brave aces who piloted them and the greater Anglo-American air power alliance."
Chairman John Coombes explained: "This is your white-knuckle, knights of old stuff, and certainly all the veteran Spitfire pilots we've spoken to have told us that they got so close that had the German pilot been walking down the high street in the hours after a dogfight, they could have recognised their faces."
"We feel it is important that they be exhibited side by side," Dye said. "With time, we recognize that young men died on both sides, which is why we don't intend to restore it. We will conserve it and place it on exhibition alongside the wreck of a Hurricane shot down at much the same time in which a British pilot died."
A spokesman for the air museum said: "Yves Mahé’s intervention was just in the nick of time, as the bombers were lining up to attack Rowntree’s main factory which, unbeknown to anyone, had a secret ammunition filling area containing hundreds of tons of high explosive."
