Referring to the more than ` "200 crore money trail involving Kalaignar TV, the ED chargesheet said, “KTV along with  promoters worked out a plan to return the money by taking money against future advertisement contracts.” The chargesheet said, “An agreement was entered into on January 12, 2011, between India Cements Ltd and KTV for advertisement on KTV channels for a period of 5 years for a total consideration of `60 crore.” The payment was made in full without deducting TDS. Later, the company deposited TDS amounting to `1.20 crore and the aggregate comes to `61.20 crore from their own funds. “This raises questions on the validity of agreement,” the chargesheet said. The chargesheet further added United Spirits Limited, saying the company entered into an agreement with Kalaignar TV on January 25 for their entire distribution network of brands, for a period of 8 yrs for `65 crore."
Speaking on the topic, he said, "They (investors) felt that the company is focusing more on other businesses than cement, which is wrong. Now we have decided to trim the non-cement business activities." The list of the company's non-core businesses includes a financial services firm, a securities broking company, and a chemicals firm...
N Srinivasan, vice chairman and managing director of India Cements, said, "Our profits were lower as we suffered from increased input costs due to power and fuel. We got slaughtered because of power costs." The combination of lower realization and rise in power cost dragged the company's Ebitda margin down to 18.3 per cent...
Meanwhile, the company is now looking to export markets including Sri Lanka and South Africa for selling its products. "We are looking at exports from India, to countries like Sri Lanka and South Africa. Of course, there are challenges to face in it, but exports is feasible now" said Mr. Srinivasan.
