Quotes

Speaking after the inquest concluded James' mother Elizabeth McDonnell said: "seventeen years is a long time. i'm relieved and i'm glad that we got the decision that we were waiting on and that it was unanimous. ?there can be no doubt that the prison service treated jim badly.?it was an emotional day for all the family but the jury agreed on every point to our satisfaction. it's hard to put it into words, it was such a long wait for an inquest and i'm just glad it's all over now."
At the time of the initial arrests, Long Beach Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell said, "i'd like to make it clear that these victims were not targeted because they were homeless. this encounter stemmed from a personal vendetta of one of the suspects as the result of an ongoing dispute with one of the victims over narcotics. the other victims were killed to ensure that there were no witnesses to this crime. "
"I think what's remarkable about it is how smart each and every player plays every point," McDonnell said. "i think they have gotten a lot better at developing court sense, being patient and not forcing opportunities but waiting for them."
"we will take all appropriate precautions for the safety and security for everyone involved" Long Beach police ChiefChief Jim McDonnell told the Long Beach Press-Telegram
