Quotes

"The thing I really liked about was the fact that Freddie encouraged me to speak to some of his franchisees. Obviously, he would promote the benefits of the business to me because he was trying to sell it, but his franchisees werent selling to me, they were just being honest about their experience with the company. This confirmed to me that the business model was a good one because franchisees were getting great results. I would advise anyone thinking of buying a franchise to speak to the franchisees before they commit to anything, it is really helpful."
Nick Bubb, an independent retail analyst, said: "It's all very well growing online but, given the costs of distribution of online product, it's hard to move profits forward if stores are seeing sales under pressure. They are running hard to stand still."
UNI Global Union General Secretary, Philip Jennings, said: "Walmart, the world's largest retailer, is out of step. By not signing up, the Walmart brand sinks to a new low. We will make progress without them."
John Ibbotson, director of consultants Retail Vision, complained: "M&S seems like a rabbit in the headlights. However many operational improvements it makes, it's all immaterial unless the retailer can rediscover its panache."
