It started, as is so often does with girls, with a whispering campaign. The gossiping was endless. "Everything I seemed to do was something to talk about. Amelia's mother says the bullies made her daughter's life hell. "One day she said, 'Mum, Amanda's* telling all the girls I'm a racist and will be the first drunk in the year level.' It was like she was being damaged in front of my eyes. The girl with confidence, getting involved in school life, she was gone. She was not that girl anymore. We got to the point where we were trying to get her out of school at lunchtime or those times when she was at point of attack. Amelia was so depleted as a person, she had no fight. She said: 'I can't even speak anymore'."
