Gogoi told TOI, "The border disputes started after the states were formed. We moved the Supreme Court to end the dispute with Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Several border commissions have been set upup to settle the issue with Nagaland, Arunachal and Meghalaya, but the other states have not accepted the recommendations of these panels. We are waiting for the Supreme Court's verdict because these commissions can only provide recommendations. They cannot ensure that they are binding."
...As people and rivals held him responsible for failing to control the violence, he told TOI: "We moved SC to end disputes with Nagaland and Arunachal. Border commissions were set upup to settle issues with Nagaland, Arunachal and Meghalaya but none of them accepted commission recommendations. We're waiting for the SC verdict. These commissions can only give recommendations but can't make them binding." Nagaland was first carved out of Assam in 1963, then Meghalaya in 1972 followed by Mizoram as a Union territory in 1972 (it became a state in 1986)...
...But the Centre, he said, is not taking the issue seriously at all. "It is a very serious issue but the way they are handling it, is not serious." He condemned the policepolice action against protesters at Rangajan area of Golaghat district yesterday and said the government will order an inquiry...
