Quotes

"L’Algérie, c’est la France!” a young minister named François Mitterrand declared in 1954, and the slogan and its variants still resonate. When Algeria was under French control, it was administered not by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as France’s other colonies and protectorates were, but by the Ministry of the Interior, which governs metropolitan France; Algeria was the crown jewel of France’s overseas reign. The history of the National Front is intertwined with France’s denouement as a colonial power. The party’s founder, Jean-Marie Le Pen, and several other early members were paratroopers in the French Army during the hostilities. They were also part of the Organisation de l’Armée Secrète, or O A S , a faction that tried to sabotage de Gaulle’s negotiations with the F L N and, ultimately, staged an attempt to assassinate him. In the eyes of these men and their supporters, inviting the institutional descendant of the F L N to celebrate French nationhood is sacrilegious. “What’s being debated is still very much alive for the pied-noir community,” Zaretsky told me. “They can’t forget what the F L N represents.”"
Belkhadem denied allegations that he intends to return to party leadership. He said: "As the party's chairman President Bouteflika knows what is happening, but he does not want to intervene in regulatory issues."
...Tracey Nicholls, and published in 'Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy: A Peer-Reviewed Academic Source,' says of Dr. Fanon: "Frantz Fanon was one of a few extraordinary thinkers supporting the decolonization struggles occurring after World War ll, and he remains among the most widely read and influential of these voices. His brief life was notable both for his whole-hearted engagement in the independence struggle the Algerian people waged against France and for his astute, passionate analyses of the human impulse towards freedom in the colonial context"
According to public-sector worker Slimane Kobi, Algeria should "tap into the significant revenues from higher oil prices so that it can be invested to help young people"
