...optics and photonics technologies to help achieve the President's goals for the BRAIN Initiative," said NPI Steering Committee Chairman Tom Baer. "Launching our industry consortium alongside OSTP signifies our joint commitment to solving the brain's greatest mysteries through optics and photonics innovation."
...that can enable technological breakthroughs," said Anupama Kaul, who coordinated EFRI 2-DARE during her rotation as an NSF program officer. "The teams will also contribute to the advancement of scalable synthesis routes and the nanomanufacturing of these materials, which can help seed translational research opportunities for these materials in the future."
The prize was awarded in recognition of Genty's "outstanding contributions in pulse propagation and ultra-fast dynamics in nonlinear optical fibres, particularly for his groundbreaking results on supercontinuum generation and nonlinear instabilities"
...waves are so rare that examining them at sea is next to impossible," says Miro Erkintalo of the University of Auckland's Department of Physics. "Luckily, we can study them using analogous optical laboratory experiments that are designed to mimic the behavior of ocean waves. Optical-fiber systems are particularly suitable for this purpose. This work is now being done to the extent where scale models of maritime vessels are being used to see how they cope with 'synthesized' rogue waves."
