Quotes

...Jasmin Mecinovic , chemist at Radboud University Nijmegen, investigated if the 'interlockedness' of the double rings was real. "By dissolving the enzyme, we could check the ratio of single and double rings in low concentrations. If the double rings indeed were an artefact, you would not expect them in low concentrations because the chance of accidentally superimposed rings is very small there. The ratio proved to be the same in all different solutions, showing that the interlocking rings exist. We checked this with three different chemical techniques: size exclusion chromatography, multi-angle laser light scattering and native mass spectrometric analyes."
"Chris and Wilhelm are a superb example of world-class scientists who are also entrepreneurial and help commercialise their technology in exciting new spin-outs"
...According to news originating from Nijmegen, Netherlands, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, "Diclofenac (DF) is a widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for the treatment of rheumatic disorders, but is often associated with liver injury. We applied urinary proteomic profiling using MALDI-TOF MS to identify biomarkers for DF-induced hepatotoxicity in mice."
...'And indeed,' confirms Cuppen, 'we have now observed these same molecules in space with the Spitzer space telescope.' Linnartz: "We now have a consistent image of how water is formed in space, namely through so-called hydrogenation reactions of ice on small particles. 'This process takes place everywhere in our galaxy, as well as outside it, in other galaxies.' So water is everywhere: this is an important conclusion. Limmartz continues: 'Recent re in Leiden has shown that other, more complex molecules can also be formed in interstellar ice. If you're looking for life elsewhere, then the building blocks of life must be readily available in situ and we are gaining increasing understanding of the chemistry required to make this possible. We are on the right track!'"
