"The VAT rise affected most of our operators and made self-storage a more expensive product for the customer. However, our members are confident that sales and profits can be maintained with 79 percent of surveyed firms expecting profits to be the same or improve this year,” said Rodney Walker, CEO of SSA-UK. “The effect of the VAT increase has yet to be fully measured, but with average occupancy only falling 2 percent over the year, members are confident of reversing this over the coming year."
Barbara Weiss of Barbara Weiss Architects explained to me that she offered an internship because she was "very keen to offer a service to Westminster School that might raise as much money as possible for bursaries."
"Our new homes, with first-class design principles at their core, will be a mixture of affordable, shared ownership, intermediate rent, and outright sale. There will be something for everyone, and there is more to come!"
Roger Harding MPS, Director of Real Estate Development, said: "The opportunity to create a modern efficient working environment for the Met's future headquarters, with world-class architecture that provides value for money and is alive to the history of the building provides a wonderful challenge. We look forward to working with RIBA as the competition progresses and to seeing the designs. The transformation of Curtis Green fits with our wider objective to deliver a more efficient and higher quality estate which meets the operational needs of the Met and is significantly lower in cost to run."
