The Nuro service includes rental of an optical network unit, or ONU that is capable of handling high speeds. "ONU devices are commonly used in homes and business to convert fiber to broadband internet. Individual users of the service are unlikely to see 2Gbps speeds on their devices, as it exceeds the capacity of most consumer network adaptors" the report adds further
An anonymous reader writes "Sony Japan has announced that its own Internet service provider So-net Entertainment has launched what is thought to be the world's fastest Internet connection for home use in Japan with download speed of 2 Gbps on average. This sped is twice as fast as competing high-speed fiber connections in Japan. The ultra-fast connection, known as Nuro, will cost an inexpensive 4,980 yen ($51) per month- offering download speeds of 2 Gbps and uploads of up to 1 Gbps."
Keisuke Watabe, a spokesman at So-net Entertainment said, "Although we can't completely rule out the possibility that there is a connection with the PSN issue, the likelihood is low." So-net issued a warning to its customers on Thursday saying that an intruder tried 10,000 times to access the provider's "So-net" point service...
