Quotes

"A few years after this I was appointed director of a corporate laboratory and I became involved in cardiac imaging using ultrasound. Ernst went back to his native Switzerland to become a professor at the ETH. About this time MRI was invented by an American scientist, however it was not very sensitive. Ernst applied the Fourier Transform method he demonstrated for NMR could be applied to MRI, making it practical to image humans in a reasonable amount of time. For this and his earlier work he was awarded the 1991 Nobel Prize in chemistry. My wife and I received an all-expense paid trip to Stockholm and tickets to the Nobel events. The Fourier Transform methods are still used in NMR and MRI today."
