VTU has issued a diktat saying that only those with BE background can become principals of engineering colleges. "As engineering colleges will have departments catering to basic sciences like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, principals are also drawn from these departments. Currently there are 18 such colleges. However, as per the latest diktat from AICTE , it has been ordered that colleges need to appoint principals only with a BE background. To begin with, this rule will be applicable only for those who have joined the post since April 1, 2010" an official added
...The tuition fee that CET students pay is ` "36,090/41,590 for BE courses."
...Except for Shashidhar Prasad, former VC of Mysore university, the minister did not name anyone. "The Justice Rangavittalachar Commission had proved that under Prasad there had been irregularities in recruitments and the government has stayed these appointments" Deshpande said
FORMERVTU vice-chancellor K Balaveera Reddy has given another spin to the term extension given to Maheshappa by Bhardwaj. He said, "The term of the VC can be continued for a period of less than one year only in the case of one whose term has been completed, Dr H Maheshappa is not eligible for a two-year term as he has been appointed for a term of three years in 2010 and continued in service for a term of not exceeding one year i e. till 30th June 2014 as per section 13(5) in June 2013. When the Chancellor has opted to exercise his powers under Section 13(5) once in June 2013 itself, how can Section 13 (4) be exercised and services extended before the expiry of the term of office? In fact, if Dr Maheshappa is so outstanding in the field of engineering and technology, the Chancellor should have extended his service by three years in June 2013 itself under section 13(4). The reason for not doing so and extending the service for exactly one year only in June 2013 is beyond anybody's imagination."
